VAIL, Colo.—One of Vail’s earliest investors who went on to forge many aspects of the ski resort has died.
Family members say Dick Hauserman died at age 93 Wednesday at Cornell Hospital in New York City. No cause of death was given.
Hauserman was one of eight investors in the Vail Ski Resort and opened the first ski shop in Vail, called Vail Blanche. In 1962 Hauserman became the first investor to move to Vail full-time. The town was incorporated in 1966.
The Cleveland native also designed Vail’s logo, still used today.
Hauserman also owned ski shops in Breckenridge and helped line up investors for the Beaver Creek Club, west of Vail.
