Wyoming basketball coach Heath Schroyer said sophomore guard/forward Thomas Manzano has decided to leave the Cowboys program for personal reasons.

The 6-foot-4 Manzano is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., who transferred to Wyoming from Garden City (Kan.) Community College. He played in all eight games this season and averaged 7.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Schroyer declined any further comment.

Coloradans named to Division II team.

In addition to Colorado Mines defensive lineman Marc Schiechl, two other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football players from Colorado were named to the NCAA Division II coaches All-America team: Nebraska-Kearney senior center Jack Hiett, a former standout at Arvada West; and Chadron State junior punter Kevin Berg, formerly of Longmont High School.

Pioneers high preseason pick.

The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will finish second in its first season as part of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, according to a preseason poll of coaches. The Pioneers, with 41 points and one first-place vote, trailed Loyola (Md.) at 47 points. Ohio State (40 points) was picked third and Air Force (20) was tabbed sixth in the eight-team league. Denver senior Dillon Roy was named preseason defensive player of the year.

Calhan’s Wall honored.

Calhan’s Cory Wall, a 19-year rodeo veteran, won ProRodeo’s 2009 bullfighter of the year award after a vote of members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, including stock contractors, announcers, bullfighters and rodeo committees.
