Two teenage inmates who beat a guard unconscious in an attempt to escape a youth lock-up facility were sentenced this week to 18 years in prison.

Anthony Desean Thomas, 19, and Cedric Dupree Alston, 18, tried to escape from the Lookout Mountain Youth Detention Facility in Golden in March of 2009, according to a media release from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Alston was sentenced in November to 18 years in prison and Thomas received the same sentence this week in Jefferson District Court.

Both pleaded guilty in September to aggravated robbery, a class three felony, and assault during escape, a class two felony, prosecutors said.

The pair were inmates at Lookout Mountain when they attacked a guard with a stick, part of a pool cue, beating him on the head and face, prosecutors said.

They stole the guard’s keys and tried to climb over a security fence using sheets tied together.

Another facility staff member found them and was able to hold both until Golden police arrived.
