Xcel Energy officials say employees who worked through the night have completed repairs on a 20-inch gas line that was ruptured in Commerce City last night and customers can resume normal energy use.

The gas company had asked natural gas customers to turn down their thermostats 3 to 5 degrees to conserve fuel following a gas line rupture last night.

Only a few customers experienced outages near the natural gas line break, said Tom Henley, Xcel spokesman.

Four men were taken to different hospitals last night after a gas line ruptured while Hettinger Mayo contractors were replacing a pipe near 56th Avenue and Vasquez Boulevard, according to Joe Haralson, safety manager for the company.

He said three were treated and released and the fourth was kept overnight for obvervation of non-serious injuries.

Several roads and highways were closed off near the rupture while Xcel employees worked to repair the damage.

The conditions of the men and their identities were not immediately known, said Lt. Dennis Moon of the Commerce City Police Department.
