HOLDREGE, Neb.—One of the best vantage points in Nebraska to view eagles will soon be open to the public.

Beginning Dec. 26, Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District will open its eagle-viewing facility at the Johnson No. 2 hydroelectric plant south of Lexington. It’s located near the intersection of county roads 749 and 750.

The site will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each weekend through early February.

Meanwhile, an eagle-viewing spot at Lake McConaughy that’s also owned by the irrigation district will not open this winter as it normally does. The site below Kingsley Dam will be closed because of ongoing maintenance work on the hydroplant there.
