PHILADELPHIA — Ricky Dobbs ran for a score Saturday to set an NCAA single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 24, and Navy defeated Army 17-3 for its eighth straight win in the series.

Dobbs also threw for a TD to help Navy (9-4) improve to 54-49-7 overall against Army (5-7) for its biggest lead in a series that began in 1890.

Navy already had a postseason date against Missouri in the Texas Bowl. Army would have played in the EagleBank Bowl with a win.

Navy also won the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy for a school-record seventh straight year.

SWAC championship: Prairie View 30, Alabama A&M 24

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Prairie View (9-1) won its first championship in 45 years, rallying with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

FCS semifinal: Montana 24, Appalachian State 17

MISSOULA, Mont. — Jabin Sambrano caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Selle with 1:31 left, and the Grizzles (14-0) survived a last-second TD attempt.

Div. II championship: Northwest Missouri St. 30, Grand Valley St. 23

FLORENCE, Ala. — LaRon Council rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns as the Bearcats (14-1) won their third national championship and ended a string of four consecutive losses in the national championship game. The other two titles came in 1998 and 1999.
