If coach Brian Kelly resuscitates Notre Dame football, he’ll make NBC very happy. During a 6-6 season in which NBC televised seven Irish home games, the network averaged 3.7 million viewers, better than last year’s 3.2 million, but a notable drop-off from Charlie Weis’ first two seasons, when the games averaged 5.2 million and 4.2 million viewers. NBC is paying about $15 million a year for the rights. “Unquestionably, we would always like them to have a higher degree of consistency,” said Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports.
