Denver police are investigating a body found in an alley this afternoon.
The man was found in a trash bin in the alley near East 22nd Avenue and Emerson Street.
Police aren’t saying yet how the man died, as detectives begin to work the scene, police spokesman Joe J. Ramirez said at about 5 p.m.
“It hasn’t been determined yet whether this is a homeless person or if there is any indication or evidence of a homicide,” he said.
Nearby residents approached officers at the police tape at each end of the block to ask what had happened.
“I’m not surprised,” said Jerome Haigood, 22, lugging heavy plastic bags from a busy supermarket parking lot a half block away. “This is about as ‘downtown’ as Denver gets, and you’ve got gang-bangers and homeless people all up in here; bodies are going to turn up.”
The Denver Medical Examiner’s office will release the man’s name once a positive identification has been made and relatives notified, probably sometime next week, according to protocol.
