DENVER—An inmate whose prison rape resulted in a $70,000 settlement from the Colorado Department of Corrections complains that he is now being held with sex offenders.

James Mervin tells The Denver Post that he has nightmares after being transferred to the Fremont Correctional Facility, where 76 percent of the inmates are sex offenders.

Mervin agreed to give his name. He was raped in 1993 by a serial killer and was later awarded $70,000 by state correctional authorities for failing to prevent the attack.

Prison officials say Mervin, a burglar, has a record for bad behavior and that Fremont is the only place he can be held. Prison officials say Mervin has been transferred to nine different prisons for getting into fights.
