COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—An El Paso County sheriff’s deputy is recovering after an SUV struck the side of his patrol car as he was finishing a traffic stop on another driver.
The Colorado State Patrol says David Yarbrough was off the road in his car and was completing paperwork Monday afternoon when the SUV hit the driver’s side of his car.
The SUV driver’s identity was not immediately released.
State Patrol Sgt. Lloyd Smith says the driver didn’t appear to attempt to slow down before hitting the deputy’s car.
Smith says troopers are investigating whether the SUV driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene says Yarbrough’s injuries are not life-threatening.
