DENVER—The Colorado attorney general has filed a civil lawsuit against a couple accused of stealing people’s identities to set up fake commercial lenders that collected thousands of dollars in fees from customers without making any loans.
The lawsuit was filed in Denver County District against 39-year-old Donald Sterling Whitlock and 40-year-old Erin Reese Whitlock, who now live in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla. They previously lived in Aspen and Basalt in Colorado and in Southport, N.C.
A phone number for them was unlisted.
The lawsuit seeks dissolution of the couple’s companies and unspecified penalties and restitution. Attorney General John Suthers said Monday his office is still pursuing other courses of action in the case.
