LINCOLN—Child-welfare experts say Nebraska needs to ramp up its oversight of private groups to ensure foster-care reform goes smoothly. The state is in the midst of contracting out more foster-care services, such as acquiring foster homes. By Nate Jenkins.

HASTINGS FIRE

HASTINGS—Authorities say three people have died and three others have been injured following a mobile home fire in central Nebraska. Adams County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss says the dead include two children and one adult. Two others were taken to a Lincoln hospital in critical condition. A third injured person was treated and released from a hospital.
