The Nuggets leaned on a suffocating defense to wear down the Oklahoma City Thunder 102-93 on Monday night at the Pepsi Center.

Carmelo Anthony scored 31 points to lead the team, and he was pretty much the only Nugget who had his offensive game going on a night mostly devoid of energy in the arena.

The win was Denver’s second straight and improved the Nuggets’ record to 18-7.

Last season, Oklahoma City, which fell to 12-11, was a team that gave the Nuggets myriad problems, despite Denver’s sweep. Two of the four meetings were decided by three points or fewer. The others were 10- and 13-point victories.

That wasn’t the case Monday.

The Nuggets started strong and separated from the foes in the second quarter, when they had a 30-17 edge.
