GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Mesa County has eliminated 33 full-time jobs and cut $142 million from its 2010 budget.

The county commissioners approved the moves on Tuesday.

The county is also freezing salaries, reducing its contribution to retirement accounts and paring back medical plan benefits.

Of the 33 jobs to be cut, 22 are vacant.

No furlough days are planned next year. The county imposed two furlough days this year.

Nearly all the county’s revenue sources have shrunk this year, including sales taxes, projected to be down 22 percent.
