His brother always liked the New England Patriots, so Tanyan Farley knows about Daniel Graham.
It recently got even better for Farley, who has been named the inaugural winner of an award sponsored by the Broncos tight end’s foundation.
Farley, a senior at Ralston Valley in Arvada, is the first winner of the Daniel Graham Award, presented to a Colorado high school senior tight end whose all- around ability most exemplifies the qualities of the former Thomas Jefferson star.
“I’m really excited about it,” Farley said. “For a long time, I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s and I’m glad he’s here now. It means a lot to be selected by him.”
Graham’s Foundation selected Farley for his football prowess, high academics, leadership and involvement in community activities.
At 6-foot-3 1/2, 225 pounds, Farley excelled at run- and pass-blocking and had 10 touchdown receptions for the Class 4A Mustangs. He also dabbled at fullback, wide receiver and defensive end. Academically, Farley has a 4.2 grade-point average. A member of the National Honor Society and the school’s mentor program, Farley works with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, in addition to his church’s outreach program.
Graham, who left New England and signed as a free agent with Denver, was known for carrying himself well at TJ in the 1990s and was All-Colorado, as chosen by The Denver Post. His father, Tom, is a former Bronco and active in his son’s organization.
“I’ve been reading a lot about Daniel’s foundation, and it means a lot to be selected by them — good people who have good morals,” Farley said.
Among Farley’s college interests are Air Force, Colorado, Harvard, Rice and assorted schools in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
