BOULDER — A Superior man faces possible felony charges after the family dog suffered serious internal injuries last week, the Daily Camera reports.

Witnesses told Boulder County sheriff’s deputies that Thomas Leurck Sr., 48, had kicked Tikka, the family’s 6-year-old beagle, because it was digging in the trash.

Because of the severity of Tikka’s injuries, the Sheriff’s Office has recommended the charges against Leurck be upgraded to aggravated animal cruelty, a Class 6 felony, from animal cruelty, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
