NATURITA — A company that wants to build a uranium mill in Colorado near the Utah border has cleared an initial small step required by state regulators, but officials say a long and technical process lies ahead.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on Friday said Energy Fuels Resources Corp.’s application is complete. That triggers a year-long technical review and a series of public meetings.
The mill would be 12 miles west of Naturita and 55 miles south of Grand Junction. The health department said if the project is approved, it would be the first new uranium mill built in the nation in more than 25 years.
