WINNEBAGO, Neb.—Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain is spreading Christmas cheer at St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago.
The 24-year-old delivering Yankees lunch boxes, pennants and “In Joba We Trust” hats to the students on Friday.
Chamberlain is a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and attended the school.
The pitcher told the children it takes a lot of practice to be good as something, but don’t give up.
In return, he was presented with a quilt and a Yankees medallion.
On Saturday, Chamberlain signed autographs for children at Lincoln’s Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, where his father was treated for a burst appendix in 2006. He also met with hospital donors.
Chamberlain pitched for Nebraska before being drafted by the Yankees in 2006.
