DELTA, Colo.—Police say the report of a kidnapping at a Delta Wal-Mart was a hoax and the three teens involved likely won’t face charges.
Two muscular men in black tank tops and ski masks were seen on surveillance video walking into the store Saturday night and carrying a young woman away. Police didn’t receive any missing person reports and spent much of the day Sunday trying to figure out what exactly happened.
With the help of witnesses, tips and Wal-Mart, police say they were finally able to identify all three people involved, including the woman young woman, and determined they were teenagers playing a prank.
“They saw the media (reports) and the kids called us. We’re talking to their parents. What the kids said is, they were bored,” police chief Robert Thomas said.
Thomas said the teens were “extremely apologetic” and their parents promised to punish them. He said he doesn’t anticipate seeking charges against them.
“I don’t believe these young men and the young woman will ever do anything like this again,” he said.
