Mullen’s state champion football team received another honor Monday, finishing No. 21 in ‘s final national rankings for high school teams.
Coach Dave Logan’s Mustangs, who finished 14-0, moved up from No. 25 in the previous rankings.
Don Bosco Prep of Ramsey, N.J., was crowned national champion, followed in the top 10 by Austin (Texas) Lake Travis, West Monroe (La.), Memphis (Tenn.) University School, Abilene (Texas), Anaheim (Calif.) Servite, West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer, Fort Thomas (Ky.) Highlands, Detroit Catholic Central and Hilliard (Ohio) Davidson.
Wyoming wrestlers shine.
Wyoming’s Joe LeBlanc, the NCAA’s fifth-ranked wrestler at 184 pounds, earned a 16-8 victory over No. 14 David Erwin of Penn State late Sunday in the consolation finals of the Reno Tournament of Champions. He went 5-1 in the tournament, improving to 21-3. Wyoming’s Michael Martinez, ranked No. 9 at 125 pounds, finished fourth. The Cowboys’ Cory VamBaur was fourth at 133 pounds.
Franklin stars in pool.
Regis Jesuit freshman swimmer Missy Franklin, 14, turned in the world’s seventh- fastest 100-meter freestyle time this year when she clocked 52.78 seconds in a 400 relay leg Saturday at the Duel in the Pool meet in Manchester, England. Her time helped the U.S. to a win over a team of European stars.
