HOLIDAY STORM

OKLAHOMA CITY—A fierce Christmas storm dumped more snow and ice across the nation’s midsection Friday after stranding travelers as highways and airports closed and leaving many to celebrate the holiday just where they were. Meteorologists predicted the slow-moving storm would glaze highways in the East with ice through Christmas night and that gusty thunderstorms would hamper the South. An ice storm warning was issued for parts of West Virginia and the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina and Virginia, while a wind chill advisory cautioned of temperatures as low as 30 below zero in Montana. SURVEY-TEXTING WHILE DRIVING

OMAHA—A majority of the Nebraska state senators who participated in an Associated Press pre-session survey believe sending or receiving text messages behind the wheel should be banned for all drivers, not just young ones. Scottsbluff Sen. John Harms said he’ll introduce legislation in 2010 that would extend the texting ban in Nebraska to all drivers. Harms sponsored a bill that passed in 2007 over Gov. Dave Heineman’s veto that prohibits drivers under 18 from using a mobile device while driving. By Eric Olson.
