EVERGREEN, Colo.—Fire officials say an Evergreen family opening Christmas presents caused a fire at their home when they threw the gifts’ wrappers into their fireplace.

Officials say no one was injured and firefighters were able to quickly put out the blaze, which had spread through the chimney to the roof and deck of the home. Fire officials say the fire left a 3-foot hole in the roof.

The fire happened Thursday night.
