The winner: Donna Boley, Silt: Rick found himself at the traffic circle of the small town of Silt, Colorado, home of the controversial “Round-a-butt.” This cheeky sculpture, with a mooning climber, has been the butt of a few jokes since it was placed at the Main Street entrance. The sculptor is Blaine Peters, who owns Rock Work Unlimited in Rifle.

Barb Asplund, Silt: The sheep resides in the center of Silt’s main intersection, which is a traffic circle. But the star attraction of this piece of art is the back side of a seemingly naked rock climber, inspiring locals to affectionately call it “the round-a butt!”

Carleton L. Hubbard, Glenwood Springs: The first time we saw the monument at the entrance to Silt, I had to make three loops around the circle so everybody could get a good look.

Jane Whitt, Rifle: The Roundabout sculpture is at the entrance to Silt off I-70. It depicts wildlife on each side: the bighorn sheep, an elk and a fly fisherman. It has been controversial, as it also contains a naked rock climber in the sculpture. This has “split” the town because of the crack in the back. Some wish it was wearing pants! It has been said people go around more than once in order to see “all sides.”

Meredith Robinson, Silt: As Mayor Pro Tem of Silt, I was proud to see a picture of our roundabout sculpture in last week’s “Find The Place.” As we have had many photos of the controversial part of the sculpture, thank you for photographing the sheep. We are happy to have a one-of-a-kind piece as the central part of our new roundabout.

Rich Burns, Rifle:

Ode to the Silt roundabout art sculpture

“While bare-butted climbers make their way up, for a lofty search

This big ram looks down from his snow laden perch.

Some people of Silt all question this art

and wonder again, should this “monument” be torn apart?

While we here in Rifle think the Silt monument is great

We’ve got silhouettes of cows and their gender is of no debate.

I myself have never been opposed to this piece.

It’s the talk of the town, and without it conversations might cease.

I say this because I want you to know,

Heck, six out of twelve months, it’s covered with snow.

So leave it alone and get on with the holiday season

Celebrations of peace and goodwill should be your main reason.

Janice and Mary Fuller, Silt: This art work was done by a local artist and it caused a lot of controversy because of the naked rock climber. Some people even tried to dress him in the night.

Tracy Marie Pihl: The snowy mountain goat is in the roundabout in Silt. His story isn’t that exciting, but the naked rock climber on the other side has an interesting story. Poor guy got sculpted without any clothes on, and it gets pretty cold up in these parts. Fortunately, someone was nice enough to realize it was going to get pretty cold up in his parts, too, so they gave him some boxers.

Joe Weaver, Arvada: This photograph was taken of the sculpture in the middle of the roundabout in beautiful downtown Silt. Elsewhere on the edifice, one would find a frosty bottom.

Jeff Van Devender, New Castle: This bighorn sheep is located on a roundabout sculpture in Silt. The sheep figured the snow cap might help disguise himself in conjunction with the location offering a good place to hide, all in an effort to provide good cover from the naked climber ascending the other side of the sculpture.

Larry Koller, Grand Junction: We made a special trip to Silt so we could take pictures. Besides the sheep, there are a lot of interesting sculptures. We have many roundabouts in Grand Junction, but none as much fun to navigate as this one is.
