Less than an inch of snow is projected for the metro Denver area this morning before cloudy skies begin to clear by the afternoon, forecasters say.
Driving conditions are dangerous on the Eastern plains with some areas reporting heaving snow and drifting and blowing snow, said Jim Kalina, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder. Some roads are closed.
“It’s definitely treacherous and hazardous out east,” Kalina said this morning.
Temperatures in the Denver area are expected to rise to the upper 20s in the afternoon and will drop to about 11 overnight, he said.
Winds are expected to gust to 20 mph from the northwest.
Light snowfall is also expected in the mountains where wind chill temperatures dropped to between 10 and 20 below zero overnight, Kalina said. Temperatures will rise to between 8 and 18 degrees today in the mountains, he said.
Interstate-70, which had been closed because of blowing snow, has been reopened.
