The skinny: For his next trick, Vikings coach Brad Childress will have to show he can get the train back on the tracks after he derailed what has been a wonderful season quite nicely last week. Seems Childress, who tried to pull QB Brett Favre out of a 7-6 game last Sunday night, is trying to show Favre who runs the show.
A good thought, but perhaps more than a little late now. It may have been wiser to not treat him as special long before this — Childress left a training camp practice to pick Favre up at the airport this summer, showing the QB he wasn’t just another player — if you didn’t want him to believe it now.
The difference will be: If the Vikings can settle those differences, because the Bears are an absolute mess with plenty of changes on the horizon. Childress has a championship-level roster, but he has to make peace with the quarterback if the team is going to have a quality playoff run.
The Vikings’ offense has suffered as the two seemingly battle for control. The offense has scored 17 and seven points in two of the last three games. And if the head coach and the quarterback don’t figure it out soon, the guys in the locker room will start to pick sides, and then the season’s over for the Vikings.
The call: Vikings 23-9.
