LEXINGTON, Ky.—An environmental watchdog group says years-old documents recently released as part of a criminal probe of a Kentucky Army depot raise concerns about the spillage of potentially contaminated wastewater.
The heavily redacted documents were posted by the Washington-based Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.
An unnamed state environmental official says in an interview included in the documents that there were spills in 2005 and 2006 of water used to wash conventional weapons at the depot. He says soil remained contaminated even after the cleanup.
Blue Grass Chemical Activity Commander David L. Musgrave says he knows of nothing that leads him to believe the facility ever failed to follow proper procedures regarding wastewater.
