Edgewater police today said 55-year-old Michael Canada was killed in his Edgewater home by a homeless man police they described as an acquaintance.
James Alan Clark, 49, was questioned and then arrested Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder. He is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Detention Center.
Officers were called to the home at 2547 Harlan St. just before 11 p.m. Monday after “a tip that a body may be inside,” Edgewater police said in a statement tonight.
The officers found Canada’s dead body.
The autopsy today found that an “assault” caused the death, but the cause is still pending, police said.
Public records show Clark has a 22-year history of arrests in Colorado, including charges of trespassing, drunk driving, burglary, theft, assault and other charges, including an escape in Denver County in 2005.
