Federal land managers have embarked on an effort to remove beetle-killed trees from Colorado forests.
White River National Forest supervisors on Tuesday announced the project to clear 4,012 acres of lodgepole pine in Summit County, northwest of Silverthorne, to reduce fire risk and falling-tree hazards.
No decision has been made on who will do the cutting and hauling. Forest officials hope the work can be done as a salvage sale, in which contractors bid on dead trees and harvest them.
