FORT WORTH, Texas — After the Armed Forces Bowl today, Houston junior quarterback Case Keenum faces a big decision. Namely, whether to play his senior season with the Cougars or enter the NFL draft.
“I’m not showing him the door,” Houston coach Kevin Sumlin said, trying to keep the subject light Wednesday at the Armed Forces Bowl luncheon.
Keenum, the NCAA leader in total offense this season, has passed for 5,449 yards and 43 touchdowns.
Sumlin wants Keenum to make his decision based on all available information. The most important is where he likely would be drafted.
“I would sleep better if it’s a decision based on all the information from credible sources he can get,” Sumlin said. “My role as his coach is to provide him with the best information I can give.”
Keenum has great statistics, having passed for 12,728 yards in his college career, but he doesn’t have the height NFL teams are looking for. He’s listed as being 6-feet-2.
“I haven’t really changed my mind from when I first got here,” Keenum said, “but I’m going to sit down with everybody at the end of the season and get as much infor- mation on the options I have.”
Great gesture.
About 12,000 family members of U.S. servicemen and women have been provided complimentary tickets to the game. Also, a number of wounded military personnel from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be special guests.
