CORTEZ, Colo.—The Cortez Cemetery is apologizing to family members after ornaments, flowers and figurines were removed from grave markers this fall.

Cemetery managers say a volunteer at the cemetery removed the personal items. The error was noticed by Cortez residents who noticed missing items when the visited the cemetery.

Pat Rule said she visited her daughter’s grave on Christmas Day to find a crystal cross and turtle figurine gone.

The board president of the Cortez Cemetery apologized and said nothing had been thrown away. Two to three boxes of gravestone decorations will be available to loved ones who want to search for missing tributes.
