DENVER—Rhett Rakhshani scored two goals and was one of three Denver players with three points Friday as the second-ranked Pioneers beat Nebraska-Omaha 7-0 in the Denver Cup.
Tyler Ruegsegger and Joe Colborne had three assists apiece for Western Collegiate Hockey Association-leading Denver (12-5-2). The Pioneers scored three goals in the first and third period. That was more than enough for goalie Marc Cheverie, who made 29 saves.
Anthony Maiani, Jesse Martin and Cody Brookwell staked Denver to a 3-0 lead after one period. Martin’s goal was shorthanded.
Rakhshani scored back-to-back goals, and Kyle Ostrow and Patrick Wiercioch closed out the scoring in the third period. Ostrow’s goal came on a power play.
UNO (9-8-4) goalie John Faulkner made 21 saves and Jeremie Dupont added seven.
