GREELEY, Colo.—The details of a December crash involving a speeding driver and a Weld County sherriff’s deputy aren’t in question. But the identity of the speeder is.
Authorities say a man driving a Chrysler Sebring sped by a trooper at about 100 miles an hour on Dec. 21. The trooper gave chase, and the Sebring slammed into the side of a tanker truck. Deputy Jared Webb was injured in the resulting crash, but he has recovered.
The speeder remains in the hospital under the name of 19-year-old Miguel A. Ginez-Altamirano.
However, investigators say that a photo on the man’s driver’s license shows it is not him. An investigation is ongoing, and the speeder’s injuries haven’t been described. Authorities say the man has given conflicting statements.
