GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Future property owners in Mesa County are getting this warning: Don’t be surprised if you hear gunshots.

Hunting complaints have prompted county commissioners to require future property owners to be informed when their property is in a traditional hunting area.

The warnings come after complaints from residents about hearing gunshots along local rivers and in other areas. The gunshots are coming from legal hunters, and commissioners say new property owners need to understand the gunshots are lawful.

The commission decided to require the warning instead of expanding no-shooting zones, as some property owners requested.
