BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Authorities say the suspicious material that prompted the shutdown of a California airport turned out to be five soft-drink bottles filled with honey.
Officials said the bottles, found in a checked bag at Bakersfield’s Meadows Field, had tested positive for traces of an explosive. The bag’s owner, Francisco Ramirez, a gardener from Milwaukee, flew to Bakersfield to spend Christmas with his sister and was carrying the honey home. Investigators were trying to determine how the bottles tested positive for TNT.
