DENVER—Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter is preparing to announce Wednesday that he won’t seek re-election.

The Democratic governor has not publicly announced his decision not to seek re-election. But Democrats with knowledge of the decision have told The Associated Press and others that Ritter has decided not to run.

Ritter’s spokesman, George Merritt, said Ritter will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. in the West Foyer of the State Capitol “to make an announcement about his future.” He refused to elaborate.

The state’s top Democrats, meanwhile, will meet in Denver Wednesday to chart a strategy for finding a new candidate. Republicans seeking the seat are former U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis and businessman Dan Maes.
