LINCOLN, Neb.—Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne is not confirming a published report that defensive coordinator Carl Pelini is receiving an 80-percent pay raise.
The Lincoln Journal Star, citing two unnamed people close to the program, reported Wednesday that Pelini will make about $375,000 in 2010 after getting $208,360 in 2009.
Both Carl Pelini and Osborne declined to comment on the report when contacted Wednesday by the AP.
Osborne later released a statement in which he said assistants’ contracts run through Jan. 31 and that none had signed an extension. He said contract extensions would be done by the end of January.
Pelini’s defense ranked among the nation’s best in 2009, and he groomed nose tackle Ndamukong Suh, who could be the top pick in the NFL draft.
