A business owner collapsed this morning as firefighters snuffed out a fire in southwest Denver.
Fire broke out at about 3:40 a.m. at 4320 Morrison Road, said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.
The fire started in the back of a retail complex, in a shop or automotive maintenance area, Champagne said.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was streaming at the site and flames were visible in the rear of the building.
More than 30 firefighters “aggressively” worked on the blaze, Champagne said, stamping it out in about 15 minutes and preventing it from spreading to adjoining businesses.
Some of the businesses in the front of the complex, facing Morrison Road, did suffer smoke damage, Champagne said.
The property owner was called about the fire and was at the scene when he collapsed, Champagne said. He was taken to a local hospital. Details on his condition were not available.
No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
