ASPEN, Colo.—Aspen saw more skiers than last year—but the resort says visits are still down from pre-recession levels.
Aspen Skiing Co. said visits during the holiday period around Christmas and New Year’s were up 3 percent from 2008. Spokesman Jeff Hanle says spending on ski lessons and at mountain restaurants is also stronger this year.
But the resort says the 2008 season was down 8 percent from the year before. That means that while 2009 was better, the resort is still making less than it did before the recession.
The weeks around Christmas and New Year’s are typically the resort’s busiest.
