WINTER WEATHER
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Steadily falling snow blanketed the Midwest on Thursday, part of a vicious cold snap engulfing much of the nation, and a tractor-trailer spun out of control on snow-slick roads in Ohio, killing four people and injuring seven. The tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 70, crossed the highway median and swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding with a small bus transporting adult disabled passengers, the Ohio Highway Patrol said. HEALTH CARE-NELSON
OMAHA—Sen. Ben Nelson said Thursday he has asked Democratic leadership to extend to all states the extra Medicaid funding promised to Nebraska in the health care reform bill. The Democrat wouldn’t say who he has spoken to regarding the so-called “Cornhusker Kickback” but that he would see to it that Nebraska doesn’t get a special deal. By Timberly Ross. XGR–ELECTORAL VOTE SPLIT

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Feb. 8 game between Kansas and Texas figures to be epic, maybe the biggest in the history of the Big 12. Two undefeated teams, No. 1 vs. No. 2, a dozen or so future pros on the floor. Of course, there’s one potential snag: one of them could lose. The way the Big 12’s shaping up, don’t rule it out.
