DENVER—A Denver certified public accountant has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for stealing from college trust funds for a friend’s children.
Sixty-five-year-old Peter Davis Johnson was ordered Friday to pay nearly $3 million in restitution to the trust funds and to apartment complex owners from whom he allegedly kept rent payments that he was supposed to process.
Prosecutors say about $700,000 was taken from the college funds between February 1992 and August 2008. Thefts from the apartment complexes occurred between April 2007 and August 2008.
Prosecutors say Johnson used the money for his personal and business expenses.
