A series of water main breaks caused road closures and traffic delays in Denver and Aurora today.
North Peoria Street in Aurora was reopened this afternoon after an overnight water main break forced crews to close the road. Soon after the street reopened, a pipe that runs parallel to the repaired water main also broke in the area.
Two of the three southbound lanes on North Peoria Street are closed between Montview and 17th Avenue in Aurora.
“This might be easier to fix than the one earlier today because we already dug the hole,” Greg Baker, Aurora Water spokesman said.
The break should be repaired between 8 and 10 p.m. tonight, Baker said.
Around 5 p.m. a water main broke in Denver at 1144 Sherman Street, which is closed in both directions between 11th Avenue and 12th Avenue, according to a Denver Water press release.
Repairs are expected to take up to eight hours, leaving six apartment buildings and three businesses without water.
