LOVELAND, Colo.—Loveland police say they used gas to force a man out of a home after he threatened to shoot officers.

Authorities say Robert Townsend III was arrested Friday night on suspicion of felony menacing and other charges.

Police say they received a report shortly after 6 p.m. Friday that a man was threatening to kill himself with a firearm. They say they used chemical agents to force him out of his house when he refused to surrender. They didn’t identify the chemicals.

Police say Townsend was checked out at a hospital and then taken to the Larimer County jail. Officials say the jail doesn’t disclose whether inmates have attorneys.

Townsend also faces charges of obstructing a police officer or firefighter, obstructing a paramedic and resisting arrest.
