An early-morning fire gutted a Grand Junction home, killing a man and injuring another man and a woman, authorities say.
One man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sally Weese, spokeswoman for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
A man and a woman were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, where they were treated and released, Weese said.
The identities of the two injured persons also have not been released.
According to a story in the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, a woman called 911 and said a man had locked himself in a room at the house and started a fire.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m. in a one-story residential home at 3034 Gunnison in Grand Junction, she said.
Clifton and Grand Junction fire crews fought the blaze for several hours. It is not known what caused the fire, Weese said.
“It’s a complete loss,” she said of the home. What wasn’t burned was damaged by smoke and water.
Investigators from the two fire departments and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the cause of the fire.
It is not known whether the fire was caused by arson.
