The days are numbered for the Louisville Sam’s Club store. Sunday night the company held an emergency meeting to inform employees that next Friday will be the store’s last day.

A spokesperson with Sam’s Club says the store is being closed due to its poor financial performance, despite a last-ditch effort by employees to improve the location’s sales. The closure was not due to any nation-wide move, according to the company. Sam’s Club says it is evaluating each store’s performance individually.

Signs have been posted on the store’s doors, warning customers that the location will close on Jan. 22. The spokesperson says beginning Monday the store will begin preparations to close. The store will also have new hours, closing earlier daily at 6 p.m. The location’s pharmacy is expected to stay open until Jan. 25.

The 125 employees will be laid off as a result of the store closing. They will be paid for the next 60 days and may be eligible for a severance program.

The company also says there will not be any liquidation sales. Any items not sold by the close of business on Jan. 22 will be redistributed to other Sam’s Club stores.
