SILVERTON — A woman died Sunday afternoon when the car she was driving slipped off the treacherous Coal Bank Pass on U.S. 550 near Silverton and tumbled about 500 feet down to a meadow, according to published reports.
The Colorado State Patrol in Montrose confirmed the accident but would not release any details until the woman could be identified and her next-of-kin notified.
The accident occurred Sunday afternoon, and the woman’s body was retrieved Monday.
