LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Police say someone stole a 4-foot-tall crucifix from the chapel of a suburban Denver hospice.

The bronze and wood icon disappeared around lunchtime Tuesday from the Hospice of St. John in Lakewood.

The crucifix is valued at about $10,000, but hospice President Steven Cooper says it was an invaluable source of comfort to patients, their families and the staff.

Police have no leads.

The hospice is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of the crucifix.
