WASHINGTON — A law enforcement official says airlines have been told to do more of the toughened screening put in place after the attempted Christmas Day terrorist attack aboard a Detroit-bound flight.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the measures, said airlines have been told that more federal air marshals will be on international flights bound for the U.S. and that airports should conduct more random screening.
