Drayson Bowman’s circuit from Littleton midget hockey to the NHL connected Friday when the Carolina Hurricane’s called him up for his first stint in the big league.
Bowman was a left winger with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League before joining the Hurricanes in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday. He likely will make his NHL debut tonight against the Atlanta Thrashers.
The 20-year-old Bowman played in the Littleton Hockey Association before moving to Vancouver in 2003 to play bantam hockey. He went on to skate for the major-junior Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League before being picked by Carolina in the third round of the 2007 NHL draft.
This season, his first as a pro, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Bowman recorded eight goals and seven assists in 26 games with Albany.
To make room for Bowman, Carolina reassigned forward Jerome Samson to Albany.
