GOLDEN, Colo.—A Commerce City man who drove straight at a Broomfield police officer, sending the officer to the ground, has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Soto pleaded guilty in November to second-degree assault and was sentenced Wednesday.
Broomfield police investigating car break-ins early Jan. 7, 2009, saw Soto and three others running from the scene. Jefferson County prosecutors say Soto got in a car and drove at Officer Jason Collins, who pushed off the car and fell. Collins fired a shot that flattened the car’s rear tire before Soto rammed another officer’s vehicle.
The other defendants in the case pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal trespass and received supervised deferred judgments.
