Avalanche winger Marek Svatos is hurt again.
A chest contusion suffered in Saturday’s victory over the New Jersey Devils will prevent Svatos from suiting up tonight against the Edmonton Oilers in the Pepsi Center.
“He won’t play tonight,” Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said after Svatos wasn’t on the ice for the morning skate. “We’ll know more tomorrow. He’s day by day right now.”
Until returning to the lineup against the Devils, Svatos had missed 12 of the previous 13 games with a groin muscle problem. With veteran winger Milan Hejduk out and scheduled to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday, it seemed to give Svatos a chance to get back in Sacco’s good graces, but that has been temporarily derailed.
After meeting the slumping and injury-riddled Oilers tonight, Colorado doesn’t play again until Friday at home against Nashville.
